Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw: Man City striker and WSL Golden Boot winner to stay at the reigning champions

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has signed a new four-year contract at Manchester City.

The Women's Super League Golden Boot winner was set to leave the club - but announced she is staying during Man City's parade to celebrate winning the title.

"I'm still here, I'm still hungry and there's no place I'd rather be," she announced to the fans.

"After months of waiting, I'm happy to announce that I'm staying at the football club."

Shaw's contract is a record in the women's game. After months of negotiations Man City not only matched but bettered Chelsea's offer of more than £1.2m per season.

Shaw's contract also betters the £1.18m per-year deal San Diego Wave gave Catarina Macario earlier this year, which was $8m (£5.9m) over five years.

Shaw told Your Site last week Manchester was "home" and City were keen to reward the Jamaica striker for her on-field excellence, and connection with the club and its fans since joining.

Shaw has been the WSL's top goalscorer for three consecutive seasons and got her hands on a first top-flight title with 21 goals in 22 games this term.

But the Jamaica international's future at City was in doubt, with her contract coming to an end this summer and no agreement reached - until now.

Manchester City director of football Therese Sjogran:

"We're delighted that Bunny has agreed to another four years at Manchester City.

"We've had a tremendous 2025/26 campaign and she's been a key figure in that success. I'm sure if we also get the result we're hoping for in the FA Cup final on Sunday, she'll have played a huge role in that as well.

"The stats and awards speak for themselves but there's so much more to Bunny than what she does on the pitch. She has become a real leader in the team and I'm sure she'll be a driving force on our return to Champions League football next season and our push to retain the WSL title.

"It's a huge statement from City that we've secured the services of one of the best centre-forwards in the world, but also from Bunny that she believes we're the best place for her to succeed. I'd like to thank her for that continued faith in what we're hoping to achieve."

Analysis by Your Site' Laura Hunter:

Bunny Shaw's future was the one prize Andree Jeglertz would have wanted just as much as the Women's Super League title. That is how important she is to the champions. They would not have finished top without her, directly responsible as she was for 10 points over the course of another stellar campaign.

The suggestions are that City negotiated hard to retain their greatest talent, arguably the game's most revered striker, amid a reported record offer from Chelsea, who they dethroned as WSL champions.

To lose Shaw would have been a major blow. To lose her to a direct WSL rival would have been a disaster. Such is her profile, she cannot be replaced with one or even two players. Not to mention the unfathomable idea she would have departed for free.

But Shaw's unexpected announcement at City's title parade was the perfect way to cap a brilliant season.
